What I Learned At The Detroit Blogger Meet Up
Am I The Only One who always talks about unity but never really acts on it? I'm reading myself this week, friends. I'm one of those people who are in love with the idea of positivity, collaboration and unity - but I never really act on. When it comes to those values, my actions never match up with what I say I'm going to do. Yup, I'm usually talking the talk but not walking the walk. I'm like this when it comes to running my brand and projects - I'm usually never proactive when it comes to collaborating or partnering with others that are also coming up in the business.
I'm one of those,"I can build this from the ground up on my own," people or "I can do it all by myself," people. Unfortunately building a brand doesn't always work like that. Only once every blue moon is there a brand or business that just catches on and takes off immediately (ex. Facebook, Snapchat etc.). But while you are waiting for your big moment, collaboration is key. Partnering with other like-minded businesses or brands not only helps you grow your business but it also creates community.
This past week I partnered with some other bloggers in Detroit for a Detroit Blogger Meet Up at Our/Detroit Vodka. At the event we talked about best practices for running our own platforms, shared tips and talked about the genre of our blogs. At the end of the event I walked away with a larger audience and a new community of bloggers that I can turn to for support. When you are building your brand from the ground up, there's no room for a one man show. You need that community. Friends, go grow your tribe!
